A “healthy” cookie that we’ll be buying again
Snackin’ Mom has been curious about The Complete Cookie from Lenny & Larry’s for a bit, but every time she looked at them she decided against the purchase. The Complete Cookie is on the more expensive side for snacks ($6.99 for a box of 4). The real challenge, however, is that one serving is just half a cookie.
The Complete Crunch Cookie solves for that by being smaller.
For The Complete Cookie, you get 210 calories in a serving (which previously noted is half a cookie). For the smaller Complete Crunch Cookies, there are six cookies in a serving, which is 160 calories. (More on the nutrition details below.)
So Snackin’ Mom decided to give them a shot, and she sent them to school in a reusable plastic container without telling the Snackin’ Kids what they were. So they didn’t know anything about the plant-based proteins packed into the cookies when they tried them.
Snackin’ Brother said the Complete Crunch Cookies from Lenny & Larry’s tasted good, and he hopes to get them again. He says they were more soft than crunchy, and they have a good chocolate flavor.
Snackin’ Sister liked them… sort of. She thought they were good-ish, but not chocolatey enough. She does want them again, so it’s still a win.
Snackin’ Dad also seemed to enjoy the cookies. He said they were “just okay” for regular cookies, but they were good for protein-packed treats. Snackin’ Dad normally doesn’t like foods with added protein, but he says he would eat the double chocolate flavor of the Complete Crunch Cookies from Lenny & Larry’s again.
Snackin’ Mom only got to try one. She thought the initial flavor was good, but it was followed by a unique (and not favorable) aftertaste, likely the result of the plant-based proteins packed into the cookies.
So now let’s look at the difference in nutrition between The Complete Cookie and The Complete Crunch Cookie, comparing a serving of each in the double chocolate flavor.
- Calories: The Complete Cookie has 50 extra calories
- Fat: The Complete Crunch Cookie has 1 extra gram of fat and an extra 0.5 grams of saturated fat. Neither have trans fat.
- Sodium: The Complete Cookie has almost double the sodium of the Complete Crunch Cookie.
- Carbohydrates: The Complete Cookie also has almost double the carbohydrates of the Complete Crunch Cookie. The Complete Cookie has 25% more dietary fiber and 33% more total sugars. However, The Complete Cookie has only slightly more added sugars than the Complete Crunch Cookie.
- Protein: The Complete Cookie has 8g of protein compared to 6g of protein in a serving of Complete Crunch Cookies.
- Calcium: The Complete Cookie has 2% of a daily serving of calcium versus 0% (12mg) for the Complete Crunch Cookies.
- Iron: The Complete Cookie has 10% of your needed daily iron, while the Complete Crunch Cookie has just 6%.
- Potassium: The Complete Cookie serving has double the potassium (4% DV) of a serving of Complete Crunch Cookies.
Where do these differences come from? Looking at the ingredient list, it’s clear that Complete Crunch Cookies are a completely different product than The Complete Cookie from Lenny & Larry’s. The first ingredient for The Complete Cookie is enriched wheat flour, while the first ingredient for the Complete Crunch Cookies is a protein blend (which is the second ingredient for The Complete Cookie). The ingredient list for The Complete Cookie is also longer than the ingredient list for Lenny & Larry’s Complete Crunch Cookies. (As a reminder, this is a comparison of the double chocolate flavor for each. There may be other variations across the flavors.)
Lenny & Larry’s Complete Crunch Cookies in double chocolate were a success in the Snackin’ Family house. With their packed-in protein, they make a great snack for kids who enjoy sweets. We’ll be buying these again, and we’re eager to try other flavor varieties.
