Verry Cherry Plums from The Flavor Tree Fruit Company
When the Snackin’ Family saw this new-to-us fruit in the produce section of our local grocery store, we were excited to give it a try. We expected they would taste like super ripe, super sweet plums.
The taste was good, but it pretty much matched a regular ripe plum – no extra sweetness. The size, however, was frustrating. Cherry plums are smaller than regular plums. They’re about the size you’d expect when you cross a cherry and a plum. But the pit is plum-sized too. We found ourselves wanting the smaller cherry size pit that you can just eat around and spit up.
After each eating one, the Snackin’ Family kids didn’t want anymore. That is until I cut up the rest of the pound of cherry plums into bite-sized pieces and placed them in a bowl. Very quickly, they were devoured.
According to the Verry Cherry Plum website, harvest begins in late June / early July and quantities are limited.
