Kid Snack Review

Hostess Orange CupCakes

A once-in-a-while snack that kids enjoy for the appearance, the taste and the opportunity to indulge.

Kids Say: MUST TRY!

Kid Snack Review:
Hostess Orange CupCakes

We took a trip to the local convenience store on the day of the $1B Mega Millions drawing, and the Snackin’ Family kids were excited for their rare opportunity to pick out convenience store snacks with few restrictions. (Kid snack sampling is tough work, but someone’s gotta do it.)

One of the two snacks the Snackin’ Family kids agreed on was Hostess Orange CupCakes. Snackin’ Mom was a fan of the regular Hostess Chocolate CupCakes when she was a kid, but she had reservations about the orange flavor. The kids, with less knowledge of Hostess snacks, were completely convinced orange was the best choice.

The Snackin’ Family kids assessment of Hostess Orange CupCakes was almost totally positive. They mentioned that the cake was soft with a nice texture. The frosting was a bit hard, but intentionally so, and Snackin’ Sister decided it was the best part of the Hostess Orange CupCakes. She also thought it might be the only orange-flavored part of the Hostess Orange CupCakes (though the wrapper says the cake is orange flavored). The cake itself tasted more like vanilla. And the cream was lacking flavor, and was actually not very tasty when it was by itself.

Snackin’ Sister decided the Hostess Orange CupCakes are “pretty good” and a “must try,” but she doesn’t need to buy them again. Snackin’ Brother said he “loves them,” and he definitely wants to buy them again.

Snackin’ Mom tried a tiny bite of the frosting. It was way too sweet for her. She determined that, with limited (if any) nutritional value, Hostess Orange CupCakes are not a good use of her daily calories. Also, Snackin’ Mom encourages snackers to look at the long ingredient list prior to trying Hostess Orange CupCakes. With sugar as the first ingredient, high fructose corn syrup in the primary ingredient list and a long list of artificial colors and hard-to-pronounce words rounding out the ingredients, Snackin’ Mom believes Hostess Orange Cup Cakes are a snack you should only eat if you’re going to truly savor and enjoy the flavor.
