Snackin’ Mom bought Totino’s Pizza Rolls on a whim one day when they were on sale, and they’ve been sitting in the freezer since. Today, with dance and swimming on the evening schedule, Snackin’ Mom was looking for a fast dinner solution, and the Totino’s Pizza Rolls hit the oven.
What Are Totino’s Pizza Rolls?
Totino’s Pizza Rolls are rectangles of dough filled with pizza sauce and mozzarella cheese bits. Each pizza “roll” is about one-inch long and three-quarters of an inch wide. They’re puffy, but they’re not rolled. A more appropriate name for Totino’s Pizza Rolls would be mini-pizza pockets.
What Do Totino’s Pizza Rolls Taste Like?
The Totino’s website says, “Pizza Perfectly. Superbly Stuffed.” Maybe it’s because we’re from NJ, the capital of yummy pizza, but the Snackin’ Family disagrees.
Somehow the Totino’s Pizza Rolls are completely lacking in flavor. The dough has no flavor. The cheese has no flavor. (After a review of the ingredients, we know why. It’s imitation mozzarella cheese!) The pizza sauce has a little bit of flavor, but not much. The combination of the flavorless dough and cheese and the almost flavorless pizza left us (Snackin’ Mom and Snackin’ Sister) wondering why we’d eaten more than one. They were just not satisfying.
The Totino’s website shows Totino’s Pizza Rolls being dipped into something. Perhaps that’s where we went wrong. We sampled the Totino’s Pizza Rolls on their own. Maybe they are perfect dippers.
Should You Buy Totino’s Pizza Rolls?
Totino’s Pizza Rolls could be the perfect snack or dinner solution for picky kids who don’t like many flavors. They’re easy to prepare — just throw them in the oven, and you’re done. But note the long ingredient list before you buy.
And if your kids have a more sophisticated palette, you will likely want to pass on Totino’s Pizza Rolls — at least in the cheese flavor. (Totino’s Pizza Rolls come in a variety of more complex flavors that we didn’t try. See below for details.)
